Malin Kundang Story in English Version

One day, there was a family living in coastal area Sumatra. That family had one child named Malin Kundang. Because of the condition of the family is so apprehensive, then Malin’s father decided to went other country.

Malin and his mother had a big wish, someday his father come back to home with bring much money that the money can be buy some necessity in daily life. Month to month had been go but Malin’s father never coming back and finally Malin’s and his mother whishes dissapeared.

After Malin Kundang grow up, he thinks for searching much money in other country with hoping someday when he come back to his village, he become a rich person. Finally, he join to sailing with a deck hand from trade commerce ship in his village which had been successed.

During in ship, Malin Kundang learned more about science of navigation to the ship crew who has experience. Malin studied so diligent about the merchant to his friends who has experience, and finally he was so clever in merchant thing.

There was so many island that he had been visited, until one day in the middle of the journey, suddenly Malin Kundang’s ship attacked by pirates. All of the marketable goods of merchantmen in ship carried away by pirates. In fact, almost of ship crews and people in that ship had been killed by pirates. Malin Kundang very lucky he was not killed by pirates, because when it happened, Malin immidiately hidden in a small room which closed by wood.

Malin Kundang was hover in the middle of the sea, finnaly his ship was ashore on a beach. With the remnant energy, Malin Kundang walked to the closer village on the beach. Arriving to the village,Malin Kundang helped by people in the village after prefiously told what happened with him. The village that Malin marooned is a fertile village. With his thoughness and persistance, Malin had been successed become a rich man. He has many merchant ships with ship crews more than 100 people. After became wealthy, Malin Kundang marry with a girl to become his wife.

Malin Kundang go down from the ship. He was greeted by his mother. After closer enough, his mother saw scar in the right arm of that person, his mother more believed that his mother approached is Malin Kundang. “My son, Malin Kundang, why you go so long without sent any news?” told her while hug Malin Kundang. Buy Malin Kundang immidiately abdicate his mother embrace and push away her until fall down. “You are the woman who cannot know yourself, you admitted as my mother.” Said Malin Kundang to his mother. Malin Kundang pretended to recognized his mother, because he was so embarrassed with his old mother  and use rag cloth.

“Is she your mother?”  ask Malin Kundang’s wife. “No, she just a beggar who admitted as my mother to get my wealth.” Said Malin Kundang to his wife. Heard the statement and treated unfairly by his son, Malin Kundang’s mother was very angry. She had not expected her son become a rebellious child. Because of mounting anger, Malin Kundang’s mother tipped her hand saying "Oh God, if he is my son, I curse him to became a rock". Not long after the curses, the strong winds and storms rumbled come to destroy the Malin Kundang’s ship. After that Malin Kundang’s body slowly becomes stiff and gradually shaped become into a rock.
